Director of Dance
Susannah “Sukie” Keita is a versatile dance artist who has performed in the United States and abroad, with companies such as the Grand Rapids Ballet and InSync Dance Theatre in Michigan, and Adrenaline Dance in New York City. Since residing in Tucson, Arizona, she has been a member of O-T-O Dance Theatre and has appeared with several local contemporary dance companies, including Zuzi Move It! Dance Company, Funhouse Movement Theatre, Flam Chen, Thom Lewis Dance, and New Articulations. Ms. Keita’s choreography has been performed by numerous regional theater companies, dance companies, and public school programs in New York, Michigan, and Arizona. A graduate of the University of Arizona Dance Department, Sukie earned her M.F.A. in choreography in 2003 where she was honored with the Graduate Creative Achievement Award in Dance. She has received grants from the Tucson Pima Arts Council and the Arizona Commission on the Arts as a solo dance artist and choreographer. In 2006, she toured Ecuador with O-T-O Dance Theatre for the International Fesival for Women in Dance. Dedicated to passing on her love of dance, Ms. Keita has forged a career in dance education, teaching young people of diverse backgrounds in over twenty K-12 public schools and private dance studios for the past ten years. She enjoys serving children, their families, and their communities through a dance curriculum that emphasizes self-reliance, creativity, health, intercultural communication, and collaboration. Prior to joining the faculty at Grand Canyon University, she directed the dance program at Amphitheater Middle School in Tucson, Arizona.
