Tutoring Hours of Service for Grand Canyon University
All GCU students are encouraged to use the Center for Learning and Advancement’s free tutoring during the hours of 8am-7pm (M-Th) and 8am-5pm (Fri), Arizona time.
The GCU tutoring center offers free tutoring to all GCU students in the following content areas:
- Writing
- Math (basic college math, algebra, trigonometry, calculus)
- Statistics
- Accounting
- Finance
- APA
- Biology and Health Sciences
- Nursing
Please contact the Center for Learning and Advancement (CLA) to set-up a free appointment with a tutor by:

Additionally, Grand Canyon University provides students with access to tutoring services from the Smarthinking resource. This is an external provider who specializes in online tutoring services for students in specific academic areas.
During the hours when the GCU tutoring center is closed or for content areas where no tutors are available in the GCU tutoring center, students may use the Smarthinking tutoring services. Please remember, GCU only gives you 15 tutoring hours of Smathinking per year so use them wisely. Be aware that Smarthinking is a pay-per-hour site, whereas the GCU tutoring center is free to all GCU students.
To access this tutoring option, follow these quick steps:
Log-in to your GCU ANGEL course and click the “Tutoring Services Available” link at the top of the home page.
Scroll down to the Smarthinking directions and click the link entitled “Access Smarthinking.”
This will open up another screen which will prompt you for your username and password. You can also create a new account at this point. Once you enter your Smarthinking username and password, you’ll have access to the online tutoring services offered on the site.
